Tasting notes and food pairings with a soft drink?
Today’s Seattle Times has an article about Dry Soda that is worth reading. Dry Soda is delicious, in my opinion, but a little expensive for everyday drinking as they are trying to promote it as a classy alternative to Coca-Cola and other soft drinks.
I have tried the Kumquat flavor and I enjoyed it a lot. I also liked their Lemongrass flavor, but I really want to try a Rhubarb soda. I have been too nervous to buy a bottle, though, as my experiences with rhubarb have usually involved face-puckeringly sour tastes and fibrous texture. I like rhubarb as long as it’s in a pie or something, but a slightly sweetened soda might be just the place for it.
Anyway, the Seattle Times article discusses wine substitute pairings with food, which is a cool idea. In fact, I just posted a comment yesterday at Pinotblogger about Dry Soda, suggesting it as a good non-alcoholic alternative for some winery visitors who can’t drink wine. So if Josh ends up serving Dry Soda at his winery, the good folks at Dry Soda will have me to thank. Ha!
Last note related to soft drinks: Check out Pop vs. Soda to see a map of the US that charts the linguistic differences with regard to references to soft drinks. Good work!
On a separate note, I think I’m heading back to the Poco Wine Room tonight with the wife. I want her to try their chocolate lava cake, and I hope they’ll still have some Justin Mourvedre Rose by the glass. We’ll see!
